WHERE DO THE BOOKS GO AFTER PICKUP ?
We understand that many people would prefer to donate their books directly to a charitable organization. Local Book Pickup is not a charity. In many cases we bridge the logistical gap by handling the packing, lifting, sorting, and transportation needed to redistribute the books responsibly.
Moving hundreds or even thousands of heavy books can require boxes, lifting, transportation, fuel, and multiple drop-offs and many organizations cannot accept an entire collection at once. We handle that work and redistribute the books through the channels best equipped to receive them.
Every collection is sorted book by book. Depending on the subject, condition, and demand, books may be directed to nonprofits, literacy programs, community organizations, booksellers, online marketplaces, specialty buyers, and other outlets where they have the best opportunity to keep moving forward.

Yes. Resale is one of several redistribution channels we use, alongside nonprofits, community organizations, literacy programs, specialty buyers, and other outlets. Revenue from books that are resold helps cover the labor, transportation, storage, and sorting required to keep pickup complimentary for downsizing seniors and families throughout the Baltimore area.
What happens to books that cannot be reused?
Books with no practical reuse option may be responsibly recycled whenever possible.
Will I receive a donation receipt?
No. Local Book Pickup is an independent, for-profit service and cannot provide charitable tax receipts.
